Try swapping in some cod parts (knee pads, leg armor, masks, weapon slings etc)
Swapping shoulder pads is a good way to go aswell.
I will post a few custom odsts later.
If you can paint you could try washes and or stripes

I've gotta say, ODST's are awesome, and that's why it's so hard for me to custom them because I don't want to ruin them.
I find that a good paint job is good enough to improve an ODST, and sometimes adding a combat knife.
