About the project
These tan ODST figures are really kind of terrible. I hate to say it, but I don't own a single desert ODST that doesn't have some sort of massive defect. Fortunately, most of them are fixable, especially the ones that just have paint slopped everywhere. In the case of the ones that literally have parts that are halfway snapped out of the box, I just have to hope they stay together. I just display and occasionally take pictures of my figures, so they should be fine. The first step, however, is fixing all of the paint mistakes which meant fixing the visor. I think it turned out nicely.
One of the first and most important parts of reworking the ODST Squad Ambush and Operation Bronze Cobra ODSTs to fit the general dirty and realistic motif that I have previously established with the Marines was darkening the figure.
Because I'm on a bit of a glow in the dark kick right now, I decided to make his SOCOMs and his helmet glow. You can see the glowing figure in picture6.
Picture 7 is as close to a before/after you are going to get. I only wanted one figure (the Captain) to have the ODST logo on his chest, which meant that I could only buy one Bronze Cobra drop pod (otherwise, I would be stuck with figures I couldn't use for this fictional unit).
Hyper Obscure Easter Egg Time!
This character's rank is a direct reference to the Night Watch sub-series of the larger Discworld series. One of the main characters in the Night Watch (The police force in the largest city, Ankh Morpork) series is Captain Sam Vimes. While not as well known IRL as Rincewind (one of the many, many main characters in the Wizards/Unseen University sub-series) or Esme Weatherwax (one of the main characters in the Witches sub-series), Captain Sam Vimes is still one of my favorite characters in the Discworld series. I figured I'd pay homage to him here, so I made him a Captain instead of a Sergeant.
