About the project
“The metal headed mutant and I were creeping out of the compound, towards the woods, however we would have to get past some guards first. Troops were stationed around the compound 24-7, protecting it from outside threats. But we were on the inside. My metal-headed friend had found a long rod and was using it as a weapon. I still had the pistol that I took from the compound’s commander.
We approached the outer garrison. I motioned for my companion to stay back. He took shelter behind a lone support pillar.
I stepped out of cover and took a deep breath. The guards still didn’t know I was here. However, I couldn’t just shoot them, it would make to much noise, and as far as I knew, they’d done nothing wrong. Besides, I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it. I served our country along side them just months ago. But now that country was gone, along with everything else that I took for granted. They might want us dead, and be part of this sick plot against mutants, so I couldn’t risk just asking if we could leave. I knew what I had to do.
I pointed my pistol at one of them and stated, “There are two of us. We are armed. Do what I say and no one gets hurt. Do not turn around.”
They tilted their heads to see each other. I continued, “Drop your weapons.”
Two rifles made a muffled thud on the soft earth. “Put your hands above your head and slowly turn around. No quick movements.”
They complied. This was going well. We tied them up and took their weapons. The mutant warned them not to talk. We walked toward the forest, with no real idea what to do next. “I should probably learn his name,” I thought.”
