About the project
Each of the comics grown in scale and story. The creators have only become more ambitious and imaginative. We’ve welcomed JoeFilms and the Winters series into the continuity. And of course, the long-awaited Battle of Antares is finally in full swing.
However, as the scope and popularity of the Mega-Verse has grown, so too has a worrying trend. Many users have come to us over the past year asking about making comics to be part of the Mega-Verse, only for their talk to amount to nothing. Moreover, a number of other users have started comics that purport to be part of the Mega-Verse, only for those comics to be quickly abandoned due to lack of audience engagement, or because continuing them is too much effort.
While we strive to be inclusive, and want the Mega-Verse to be open to new collaborators, the interconnected nature of the universe means that abandoned plots like this are actually extremely problematic for those of us that are left, as we need to find a way to explain or resolve them, without having any real knowledge of the creator’s intentions for them. As such, after much deliberation, we’ve decided that we need to set a benchmark for new users and their works to be granted entry into the wider Mega-Verse.
All of the main narratives of the Mega-Verse started off as separate, individual stories, each with their own fans and followings. Only later were they brought together and integrated into a single cohesive whole. So, from here forward, we’ve come to the decision that brand-new comics won’t be allowed entry into the Mega-Verse. Users need to be able to demonstrate that they’re able to craft quality stories and characters, and that their series is capable of holding an audience on its own merits, rather than simply riding the coattails of the Mega-Verse name.
We don’t have a set list of criteria that a comic or user must meet before they’ll be granted entry; this is something that will be discussed on a case-by-case basis between existing Mega-Verse members, and the comic’s creator. In the same way, if you decide to make a mini-comic or spin-off or something that mentions or references the Mega-Verse, it won’t necessarily be considered canon until the collaborators have reached a consensus.
At the end of the day, the message is this: the Mega-Verse stories aren’t the only comics on this site. There are plenty of independent comics that are every bit as good. In the same way, the comics that make up the Mega-Verse started out as their own separate stories. They weren’t created with the sole intention of being part of this larger collaboration. We let them come together organically, and that’s what we need from other users in future.
We want you to tell your own story, and for your story to succeed in its own right.
